What is it about flat brimmed hats that everybody finds so cool? A few years ago the only place you'd find a flat brimmed hat is on a thug on the wrong side of the tracks, pullin his pants up cause they're too big. But now, you'll find them everywhere. From the white kid next door, to the ski slopes, to the Irish pub.
Why, oh why, are they so popular now? Can someone fill me in?
I'm mostly curious because I, too, have fallen into this thing. I know that the flat brimmed FlexFit hats aren't quite "cool" enough, I know that you're supposed to leave the gold "59fifty" sticker on the top of the brim, I even know how to position it on my head to make it look cool. But why? is it because of TV? All the rap videos on Mtv or whatever? Or is it because hiphop music stuck it's head into extreme sports?
All in all, i'm not sure. but what i do know, is that www.rememberdelaware.com has flat brimmed hats from just about every cool extreme sports company we carry.

the squirrel and other board related ramblings

I couldn't find a picture of the board i just bought because it's last year's model. they stopped making it. it's the Arbor Bogart. the picture above is the bamboo Pocketrocket. they're about the same size, different shape though.
I just bought the bogart, which i renamed the squirrel due to it's squirrel like handling, because my flexdex got stolen. I'm a big fan of this board. Arbor has done a great job with building their boards. not to mention the art on the bottom of the deck is super cool. i also really enjoy the wood grain finish on the top of the deck. they've made the grip out of crushed up glass, sprayed on so you stick to the board, but you can still see the design of the wood-grain.
While we don't have the bogart anymore (my fault) we do have the pocketrocket and all the other models that you should definately look at here and here.
It's summer time. you've got a few good months of longboarding before it's time to pull out the snow toys!

The Dakine Zip Away is almost as cool as Megatron, except it's nothing like a semi truck.

What's The Point?

I've never understood the point in having a bunch of different purses... I guess it's not something a guy will ever understand, but still... it's confusing.

Most girls I know not only have multiple different purses, but they're all weird designs that (sorry) honestly are just ugly! Does the ugliness get cancelled out by the number on the price tag? The higher the price, the less ugly a purse becomes?

I guess I just don't understand the joy that comes from dumping out your purse and all of it's contents onto the floor, just to pick them all up and put them into a different purse...

Ogio has begun producing some of these ghastly bags... so here's some pics. I figure if you're into this type of thing you'll be happy to see what's new on the market. And if you're not into it, but your girlfriend is, you can see what you'll have to deal with (because of me).

There's a tiny company in a dirty industrial park in Salt Lake City, Utah. Very tiny. There's only three employees. And yet, somehow, you can find them competing with companies like http://www.backcountry.com/ and others with multitudes of employees. If you haven't figured out by now that I'm talking about the company I work for, something's wrong....

I find it maybe a bit too easy to boast about Remember Delaware because I'm the newcomer... I still see the company from the outside in rather than the opposite. I even have a hard time referring to the company as "us" when talking to my bosses.

Anyway, back to the subject. We're a small militia of three people, but somehow we've grown to compete with some of the best. And I'd like to think we've got followers (look here and here). Things are going pretty good considering we're in the gray space between seasons... But I personally think a change is in order... We need more people supporting us, more people throwing our name around. I mean, there are plenty of "household words" that you hear all the time, that it'd be hard to argue if they're any more deserving than we are (Susan Boyle, American Idol, Heidi Montag, Jennifer Aniston, Iraq, Afghanistan, Obama, etc). So this is what we're gonna do....

This is a call to arms!

The people of Utah, and of The World must know of our existence!

This Jacket is Cold... But Louder Than Anything

The Skull Candy Full Metal Jacket is a tiny earbud that packs a punch that'll slap your earbuds back to Africa. It's got outstanding frequency separation, crystal clear mids and highs, and enough bass to fuel a hip hop concert. If only these things existed back in the day of Run DMC!

I just bought these for myself and I love em. I play the drums, and I play them loud. So when I want to play along with the music on my iPod, I need some good headphones. I've got the SkullCandy Hesh, which are great, but they're not the best in this situation. Instead, I go with ear-plugging earbuds like the Full Metal Jackt, the Smokin Buds, and the Riot.

Not only do they sound great, but they look amazing! There's a bunch of different color choices. If you've got a bunch of extra green, go ahead and buy FMJ's for every outfit you own!

And for all you rich guys (and gals) with iPhones, they've got an in-line microphone! Killer sound and the capability to stay attached to your phone constantly!

Electric!

I worked as an electrician for 7 months. It wasn't all that great, but I learned a lot about electricity and getting zapped at 4 in the morning during an all night shift. I was a technician, and so are these sunglasses. The Electric Technician is a great pair of sunglasses. They're not very expensive, and they're not gigantic so you won't drown in them.

Electric is a great company. From looking at their shades to looking at their company, you can tell they're going far. And coincidentally, they sponsor a member of the Nitro Circus! Jolene Van Vugt! This girl is shocking. Attractive, athletic, and as hardcore as they come. Don't believe me? Go watch Nitro Circus!

So they're not as big of a company as Smith, but they're still quality... If they weren't, we wouldn't sell em. nuff said.

Ok, class, today we're going to be talking about sunglasses again! This time we'll be talking about a company called Von Zipper. They're a top contender in the world of optics.

In my research, I took the same approach today as I did for yesterday's second blog. I went to us.vonzipper.com and went directly to their team page. Naturally, the first thing that caught my eye was the pavement team. This means skate, bmx, etc.

Literally, the first two people I noticed were Mike Vallely and Rick Thorne. Mike Vallely's a hardcore streetskater that looks like a 25 year old Santa. He'll rock you if you cross him wrong. Rick Thorne is kinda like Rodney Mullen, but on a BMX. He's a living BMX legend. A forefather, an originator, a pioneer.

So what do these things say about VonZipper?

They're legendary, pioneering, originating, hardcore. They're so many amazing things. They have so many great qualities. Unfortunately they aren't Santa Clause, but you get the picture.

The products from VZ are unique, but clasic at the same time.

For example: The Skitch

These are a classic rendition of an aviator. The only difference is, the skitch is made by VonZipper, so they've got some attitude (kinda like Mike Vallely).

So you can't hang with the new age flair of Smith? You'd rather stay away from Anon and their wall-flower act? Well, be a pioneer. Pull up your Zipper and stun a few folks.

Anon sunglasses are pretty dope... Every time I see their logo I get this feeling that they're greatly under-rated. So we're gonna take a deeper look into this mystery. I think to really see what this company is like, We have to take a look at their team of professional athletes, the people that are hired to give the company a good image.

Keir Dillon is a god in the world of snow. He has always been on top of his (and everyone else's) game. He has accumulated two bronze medals at the winter x games, took back to back gold at the World Superpipe championships in 04/05, and has secured second and third place at the U.S. Open. Dillon is a member of the Frends Crew, which is a group of riders who turned their initial friendship into a formal alliance in 2007 to move the sport away from its recent competitive and business focus and return the sport to its grassroots beginnings.

So we've got a pro snowboarder who's 30 years old... Almost a dinosaur in the sport. He's started a team of athletes that have dedicated themselves to having fun on the slopes, rather than trying to win. I personally think that says tons about what kind of company Anon must be. So now we'll look at an Anon product, The Shotgun.

This is a killer pair of sunglasses. (no pun intended). Wearing these, you'll look amazing and still be able to see after a long sunny day. Who doesn't love their retinas?

Or what about the associate, allnighter, fletch, fairfax, or hombre? Any way you spin it, you've got amazing shades from an amazing company. All that's missing is a chicken burrito, a few happy midgets, and The Aquabats.

YOUR PANTS!

So I've only worked here for a few weeks, and I was under the impression that we didn't have any pants, at least no jeans or normal pants. I walk into the warehouse and i see masses of winter clothing, but not much summer clothing. We've already talked about boardshorts, shirts, and sunglasses, so now we'll talk about jeans.
I just bought the DC Renegade tshirt last week, and I can honestly say I love it. I wore it for three days (it's clean, don't worry). But I think it would've been cooler if I had been wearing some DC jeans. Most people would go for the Rinse Straight. These are right in between tight and baggy for those that want a fitted look without resorting to wearing their sister's pants.

But I think I'm more interested in the slim... I'm not sure why. But isn't it great to know you've got a choice?

We've also got a few other fits and styles, but these are what caught my eye. I guess it's nice to know that I have a great place to go to when I need new pants. Especially DC pants. I mean, I've always loved jeans, and now that I have great people like Rob Dyrdek running around in DC's softgoods and makin them look disgustingly awesome, why wouldn't I want to wear them?

I guess I'm a sucker for looking cool.

More DC than you can handle!

I asked Taron what I should write about today and he suggested something having to do with spring or summer. That's kinda vague, but I just so happened to have seen our gigantic stock of t-shirts in the corner of my eye. So I took a picture with my phone, which hardly does any justice for the huge mass of product.

But even still, you can see that there's multitudes of DC shirts.

DC has done a wonderful job of bringing us designs and styles that successfully draw people's attention while remaining simple and blunt.

It's called the Star. The design comes on their shirts, longsleeve and short, hats, hoodies, coats, and more. But for something so simple, it's extremely powerful. Everybody know's that symbol. I mean, it's even hard for me to write more about it. It's that simple.

As you can see, there are plenty of different colors of the same design to meet your personal style.

And if you're still lost, maybe you should go to our store and look for more options!

The DC Universe

Ok, so the title of this blog is a bit misleading, at least for some of you. I'm NOT blogging about The Green Lantern or Superman. So maybe it's not "The" DC Universe, but we'll be talking about one of them.
DC is one of the biggest, most successful skate companies I've heard of. Vans is pretty big, and so are companies like Element, Volcom, and many others. But there's just something about DC...
They cater to skaters, surfers, BMX, snowboarders, motocross riders, musicians, absolutely everyone!

Some examples:

Travis Barker : Blink182, Transplants, Aquabats, Boxcar Racer
Rob Dyrdek : Skateboarding, Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory (Mtv)

And that's not even all of the people we know about!

DC's gotten into the minds and closets of everyone in the world. They've got shoes, shirts, pants, shorts, hoodies, hats, socks, flipflops, jackets, winter pants and coats, snowboard boots.... just about everything you can imagine! I wouldn't be surprised if they started marketing energy drinks. (Note to DC, if you read this and get any ideas, i want a lifetime supply of your energy drinks, and a few pairs of shoes!)

Today we're gonna focus on the summer season. When I think of summer, I think of sun, watersports, skateboarding or longboarding, sunglasses, and of course, hot girls! So we've got the sun... That's a given. We can take care of the watersports no matter where you live (turn on the sprinklers, bro!). If you've been reading my blogs you know where you can get an awesome longboard and some stunna shades. So we're missing two things: Girls and, something I haven't mentioned yet, shorts!

I'm not really sure where to find the girls unfortunately (if you've got any tips, let me know), but I know where to find some awesome shorts!

DC's Dubbed boardshorts are perfect for a killer summer. They're functional as boardshorts so you can surf, swim, or run through your neighbor's sprinklers, and they're also comfortable enough to wear around the house or the neighborhood. And for you oldschool junkies, you can feel comfortable repping your age with these shorts because they're entirely covered with old audiotapes! (you see, before we had ipods and cd's we had these things called tapes. they sounded like crap and you couldn't skip from track to track, so you actually had to listen to a whole song. tapes were also fun when broken apart cause you could string the actual tape acrossed streets and canyons and they made awesome messes!)

Anywho, all I'm sayin is, the Dubbed short by DC is a pretty darn good choice for a new addition to your summer style. And from a company like DC, if you don't like the Dubbed, you've got countless other options to choose from. Believe me, I've got the DC product catalogue next to me... It's four huge books, absolutely full to the brim, of mindblowing products!

Longboard Addicts Anonymous

Hello, my name is Andy, and I'm.... addicted to longboarding.
(Hi, Andy!)
It's been nine years since my first experience with a longboard... I started with one of the best boards I've ever seen: The FlexDex Wingnut Pro Model. It was a 180 cm. pintail. Completely unbreakable. You could jump as high as possible and come down on the middle of the board and nothing would happen. It was beautiful. Not to mention fast! I had her built up with Swiss Bones bearings. I named her The Widowmaker. Everyone that had ever ridden her (but me) had gotten speed wobbles and walked away bleeding.
I took a short break from The Widowmaker with a Sector9 Bamboo Waimea. I thoroughly enjoyed the Sector, but noticed cracks forming in it's beautiful bamboo. That deck now hangs on my bedroom wall to showcase the beautiful art on the underside of the wonderful bamboo.
I went back to my Widowmaker for a short time before winter hit, and then she got stolen. It's been a hard time, full of withdrawls and temptations, since I lost that board. But now I've found a new object of my affection. As soon as I have enough cash to restart my habit I'll be back in the game with a wonderful product from Arbor Longboards:

Throwback

There seems to be a new trend floating around, one that I really don't know how to react to. Mainly cause I'm not sure if I should treat it like just another fad, or if I should fall in line and follow suit. I know you've seen what Im talking about. You've heard talk of dance clubs doing 80's night once a week, you've seen the brightly colored sunglasses, and the super bright colored hightop style skate shoes and throwback Nikes.

At first glance it looks like just another obnoxious style the kids are bringing back to get attention. And it would make sense cause 90% of the kids out there wearing these clothes were born in 1990 or later. Another 5% are like me, born during the 80's. I lived through that scene but I can't honestly remember any of it. By the time I was 5 (about the time my memory kicks in) it was already the 90's and styles were starting to change.

If you take some time to really look into this fashion statement, it really seems to be coming back with a vengance....

Skate shops are selling bright colors, surf and swim companies are mass producing old-school tank tops and shorter board shorts, most of which are either neon colored or made to look faded, like maybe you pulled them out of your 35 year old brother's storage. It's kindof a weird trip for me. It reminds me of my older brother, who actually remembers the 80's.

And then there's also the subject of music (as many of you know, this is a big deal for me). Bands like Family Force Five, Forever the Sickest Kids, and Cobra Starship are taking today's popular "emo" style music and throwing it back, mixing it with classic 80's dance club synthesizers and vocals. It's actually quite catchy. You really can't help but sing along and/or tap your feet.

So, like I asked before, is this just another cry for attention? Or should I fall for it?

Well, I'll be honest... I fell for it. Not only do I love Cobra Starship and Forever the Sickest Kids, but I bought pair of black/purple/neon green Osiris Hightops.

Now, should I be proud of all that stuff? I'm not sure.... But I am sure of this. I am very, very proud of my Smith Chemist sunglasses.

I mean, look at them! They're beautiful! The Chemist looks like the old RayBan's you see on Blues Brothers movies or old detective shows. But they're smaller, smoother, and made by Smith. I'm not trying to say that RayBan isn't completely awesome, but really? What 18 year old kid is gonna go looking for real RayBan's to take to 80's night? I know I wouldn't.

Not only do you get the Smith name to add to your rep, but if you're really feeling crazy you can get em with neon yellow and black frames! (hint: probably a good addition to any wardrobe full of Neff products)

Now here's a good tip for you guys.... If you buy the Chemist with the Platinum lense, you get a killer pair of sunglasses with mirrored lenses. What does this mean? It means that hot girl walking towards you in the mall can't see your eyeballs. So you can point your head to the sign five feet to her left, but really be staring right at her. BOOM! Automatic spy glasses! How cool is that?!

Either way you mix it, this throwback isn't just an obnoxious fad. It's a combination for coolness. You get the quality you've come to expect from Smith, good lenses, and an upgraded version of classic style. Now it's up to you to decide if they match your radical purple windbreaker, stellar acid wash jeans, and dirty, dirty mullet. Party on, dudes!

Be Prepared

I graduated from highschool in 2004. That year, as a graduation gift, I was given The Scout, an amazing Nixon Watch. I wore that thing every day for almost two years. I crashed some skateboards while wearing it, and it held up perfectly. The only reason I ever took it off was cause the battery died.

I think I like it so much because it's such a chameleon.

If you want a watch that has the same vintage look as watches with worn leather bands, you've got it, without having to worry about ruining the leather. If you want a watch that looks like something belongs on a black-ops soldier, you've got it, and you'll never have to worry about getting called out to assassinate anyone in the middle of the night. (see also, Jason Bourne). I love the ability to wear The Scout to a concert one day and then wear it with a suit and tie the next. It's adaptable.

Sweat through it, get it wet, bleed on it, do what you will.... like a good scout, it's prepared.

Recently, I've been looking at the Ogio Politan.... It's a pretty cool bag. It's kinda simple and self explanatory, but just in case you need more explanation, this is what was given on http://www.ogio.com:

Honestly? I really didn't understand any of that. Guys like me need a certain type of communication.... i guess i learn more from cool sounding words like "BOOM!" So, lets take a look at another description from http://www.rememberdelaware.com:

The Ogio Politan is awesome. It's great for students who have tons of books, a lunch, and a laptop to lug around the school campus. It comes in a few different colors, including the crazy white and red checkerboard design you see above. So you can choose to be inconspicuous and go through school without saying much, or you could choose the red and white and make even your teacher or professor lose his/her concentration! Personally, I'd choose the red and white, but that's just me.

Anyway, back to the pack. So you've got plenty of space for books, food, and a laptop, but what else? Why else would anyone in their right mind want to buy this bag? Well, it's got plenty of padding to protect your laptop, you can store two waterbottles in the mesh side pockets, you still want more reasons? Ok, you like music? Well, with this bag, you can stash your iPod or other mp3 player in a pocket lined with fleece and run your headphones thru the exit hole so you can listen to your music and still have space in your pants pockets for more important things, like crumbs and trash.

mix and match

I've been riding a bike around Salt Lake City for the past two years. I spent a few months as a courier, so you've probably almost hit me with your car or at least someone I know. I guess I kinda fit into the category of hipster or whatever you want to call it. I wear shoes that look like i bought them in 1970, but in reality I purchased in 2006 at a store in the mall. I wear t-shirts that look old as well, and retro biking hats, and a messenger pack.... I think the only thing missing is that I eat more than my fair share of meat....

Guys like Travis Pastrana have been riding motorcycles for years. They spend their time getting paid to do crazy stuff you never thought was possible, so you've probably seen him and his friends on TV or on various DVD's. They definately fit into the Extreme Sports category. a little bit surfer, a little bit jock... However you describe that style, it's definately big. Buy anything at PacSun or Zumiez, and you can probably fit in. Jeans, Skate shoes, T-shirts, and cool hats, are defining factors in this style.

There's a few ways our two distinct styles collide.... Yes, I kinda work in the extreme sports industry, but no that's not what i'm talking about.

I'm talking about products and marketing.

There's tons of companies out there that market to distinct groups of people, but under all the hype, they're marketing to multiple other groups of people as well.

Ogio's big moneymaker right now is Motocross and other extremesports. With products like the Erzberg, they center on moto riders. Bullet bikers have the No Drag and Less Drag, as well as the Fenderbag and a few others. Skateboarders can have their own corner of the Ogio scene with bags that hold their skateboards for easy travel. And surfing has even found a place in this empire, run by a company based out of land-locked Utah.

But did you know that Ogio's "gateway drug" was golf bags? A few years bag, the coolest golf bag I'd ever seen was a yellow one my dad brought home from a visit to the Ogio compound. Thankfully, they're still makin those wonderful bags, and hopefully there's a few golfers reading this that'll get stoked (however golfers get stoked, i'm not sure...) and go buy one.

And now, we've been given products that also appeal to the hipsters and road bikers out there. Messenger Bags! I mean, honestly, I'm perfectly happy with any backpack (especially one from Ogio), but how much cooler will I look with a real messenger bag? I could go with the Hip Hop, or even look a little more corporate (like my dad!) with the Director. Decisions, decisions.... Maybe I'll completely forget the messenger pack completely and get a fannypack.....

Other companies that obviously cater to all different types of people (companies who's products we happen to sell) are DC, Dakine, Nixon, Smith, etc. I think it's important to make a statement, as a company, as to who you're main target is, but also, as a consumer, remember to be open minded. Just cause you don't ride a Honda two stroke doesn't mean Ogio won't have something for you. And just cause you don't skate doesn't mean you won't like what DC has to offer. So come on into the store and look around for something that catches your eye!

Supercross in SLC!

Unfortunately I wasn't able to go to the supercross event at Rice-Eccles last saturday (april 25th), I was too busy watching Real Salt Lake tie for the highest scoring game in MLS history. They dominated New England at 6-0.

Anyway, back on topic, I've been having troubles with the internet today for some reason so it took me three hours to find this stuff.

Here's what i found:

It looks like James Stewart won (again), with Chad Reed in second, and David Millsaps in third.

Unfortunately, i can't brag about any Ogio riders this time, but then, with a rider like Stewart, there's not much chance of anyone else winning for a few years. He's the new Carmichael. Nuff said.....

Hmmm.... "Nuff"..... sounds kinda like Neff!

A couple weeks ago i was able to help pick out next years Neff products... Let me tell you, if you haven't seen their stuff, you should. It's gonna hit you like a ton of neon colored bricks. Once you stand back up and dust the brightly colored debris off your knees you'll realize one of two things. You absolutely love Neff's products or you absolutely hate Neff's products. It's my firm belief that to attain complete happiness, one must mix extreme sports or anything related to them with.... MUSIC!!!!

I absolutely cannot imagine what it would be like to fly off a kicker on my bike without my music pumping me up. Imagine your favorite snowboard or ski movie.... Now take out the soundtrack. It's still pretty cool, but it's not even half of what it would be with some killer tunes!

All my favorite videos have soundtracks with blood pumping beats and screaming guitars and crazy drums. Stuff like Swollen Members, Rush, Slayer, Rise Against, and the list goes on. Coincidentally, a lot of my favorite bands have ties into the extreme sports world as well. The Aquabats have a Vans Shoes sponsorship, as does Rise Against. Tons of my top bands have played at sports events like the X Games, the AST Dew Tour, and the Gravity Games. Travis Barker has a signature DC shoe.

So what does this have to do with http://www.rememberdelaware.com/ ?

Save Lives, Not Money

About three years ago I was riding my bike in a small, upperclass town in Georgia. It was about nine o'clock in the evening and it was starting to get dark. Me and my friend were headed back to the apartment from a quick ride to the Wal-Mart. I stood up on my pedals to get a bit of force into my stroke so I could get up the next rise without problem. I put a lot of power into my pedals and then it happened. My chain skipped, causing my feet to slip off the pedals and hit the pavement. I was doing about twenty miles an hour at that point so it's not like I could just put my feet down without problem.

When my friend caught up with me i was laying face down in the middle of the street, snoring, in a puddle of my own blood. I personally don't remember any of this. In fact, the last thing i remembered was waiting outside our apartment for my buddy to finish tying his shoes. I had lost four hours of my memory. I was in and out of conciousness for the next hour as i rode to the hospital in an ambulance.

I didn't know where I was or why I was there. I knew who i was, but it's extremely frightening to not know where you are or remember how you got there. While I rode on the stretcher in the back of the ambulance, all i could think of was "Was I wearing a helmet?" and the EMT riding with me was getting a little annoyed that i kept asking him that...

Yes, I was wearing my helmet. When I ate pavement I opened up my right hand and shoulder, sprained both wrists and both knees, suffered a concussion, and got road rash up the right side of my face. While the helmet did save my life, it sliced my eyebrow clean open when it made contact with the ground. I got seven stitches over my right eye and wasn't able to open it for a week and a half. I looked like I got in a fight with a full sized gorilla.

There's a rule that most people don't know about helmets. Once you've crashed in a helmet once, no matter how hard the impact, the helmet needs to be replaced. Well, my helmet was completely ruined. Blood all over it, and one side pretty much ground up to oblivion. I wouldn't be suprised if there's still pieces of my helmet in the pavement on the dark street in Georgia.

There's also an even less well known rule about helmets... If it's a good helmet, one that's actually gonna protect you in an accident, it's gonna cost you a bit more money than a lid you'd find at Wal-Mart.

Well, I bought a new helmet... It over-drafted my checking account, but the point is, I needed a new one and i bought one. I wear my helmet whenever I ride. In fact, I have four helmets to choose from depending on what type of riding I do.

My point in telling this story is, It's important to wear a helmet. Ya, helmets are expensive, but in the long run, that extra money will save your life. Another argument may be bouncing around somewhere, helmets make me look dumb.

The Enduro at Erzberg is a 35 kilometer (21 miles and around a thousand yards) rugged and hazardous trail-based motorcross race where only 30 riders out of 1500 will finish. It's pretty gruesome.
You can see footage of this deathrace on Travis Pastrana's dvd "Nitro Circus 3". If i remember correctly, our boy Travis doesn't even finish the race. Now, if you follow his antics at all, you know that he's darn near invincible. He wins at absolutely everything. He wins even when it means looking past broken bones and disconnected shoulders in order to push forward and destroy the competition. So what does this tell you? Travis Pastrana, the wonder boy, didn't finish Erzberg. This can mean only one thing: Erzberg really is that hard.

So, if you're on a motorcycle in the mountains of Austria (or anywhere else for that matter) and you want to get a hydration pack that will do it's job, but you want to make sure it'll go above and beyond, which one would you choose?

I think it'd be important to go with a company that makes quality products, so lets go with Ogio. They're kinda the obvious choice here. Now, if all you were given to make your choice was the names of the bags, you'd have a couple to choose from. You've got the Baja pack, the MX Hydration pack, the Flight Vest, or... wait... what's this? The Erzberg?!

Over the years we seem to just keep changing our look and feel. Take the picture attached. What on earth were we thinking. Do you remember the days when you were the one wearing the denim pant with the matching denim shirt and of course the braded belt. Or the sweat pants and sweat shirt that of course matched perfectly.

We find that some gear heads just hold on to the same stuff year after year with the mentality of if its not broke don't replace it. I like this idea but do us this one favor. Take a look at your self. If you are still rocking the perm, the matching denim or the matching sweat suit. Stop it, a new cheap coat is better then your old unfashionable coat.

Also no more perms...

Josh Madsen: When Regular Skiing is Too Wussy

Josh Madsen is so good at skiing, he had to make it harder. So he started telemarking. Oh pardon us; you might not know what telemarking is. Telemarking is skiing with burlier cross-country bindings (basically you’re doing deep-knee lunges all day). Madsen’s so good now, Scarpa pays him.

I first saw Josh Madsen destroy the hill when we worked as junior instructors at Brighton Ski Resort. Even when he was a sophomore in high school, Josh was incorporating freeride tricks into normal terrain features. Before anyone was grabbing their skis, Madsen was spinning 360s in the Rock Garden. And bigger terrain? Josh was stomping front flips off bigger features.

Madsen’s taken his proficiency of the mountain to the park. He’s working on rodeos 720s, misties—even landing switch. He’s even killing it on rails in and out of the park.

If you’ve never seen the 51-30, you’re in for a surprise. It’s burly. Picture wearing Escalade rims on your wrist.

This watch is bomber. It’s waterproof down to like 6,000 feet. So if you’re raising the Titanic any time soon, you should be fine.

Gear Review: Dalbello Krypton Pro ID.

As the Joker once said “Those toys. Where does he get all those wonderful toys?” Joker was referring to the Caped Crusader — not a 25-year-old skier named Tanner Hall, of course. But really. What does Tanner ride? Let’s start at the most important part of Tanner’s setup: his boots.

Whether T-Hall’s earning medals in the pipe or Bio-900-ing off backcountry cliffs, his boots matter. He needs the right flex, pinpoint edge control, and most importantly, bangin’ style. It’s probably why he’s been riding Dalbello Kryptons forever.

Dalbello’s sole aim is to make ski boots, well, less ski boot-y. And they start at the shell of the boot. The Krypton Pro has a three-piece design that makes it super-g stiff or nose-butter soft (and anywhere in between).

Believe the Hype

If you’ve ever read a ski magazine in the last 12 years, you should’ve heard of Tanner Hall. Shoot, between Tanner’s independent ski company, Armada, his huge Red Bull contract, and another ginormous Oakley contract (with a signature goggle), and his film company, it’s safe to say Tanner has the world of skiing on lockdown.

Pretty much any contest Tanner even enters is a battle for second place. Remember X games ’08? Tanner was neck and neck with Simon Dumont. Dumont boosted higher than Hall, and many argued that Dumont won… Nope. Dumont couldn’t boost and spin both ways in the pipe. Another silver for Dumont, more gold for Hall. But the pipe isn’t the only place where Tanner’s killing it.

T-Hall’s making the illest ski movies in the business now. He’s been cranking out the flicks for three years actually. Hall might not have the budget to take a film crew to ski in Turkmenistan, but Tanner’s trademark is progressive riding, both in and out of bounds. And that goes a long way. It’s all in the skis though — right?

Of course not. But if you asked Tanner he’d probably tell you his gear helps him give ‘er on the hill. It’s probably 97.6% natural talent, but the gear’s gotta help though. For starters, Tanner rides some of the best skis in the biz. And His Dalbello boots are arguably the raddest boots ever created by humans. And, of course, Oakley throws anything and every piece of newfangled eyewear and ski fashion his way.

He’s got the technology behind him too. In fact, the Armada team dispatches a fleet of ski techs and tuners to every event — Tanner’s tech spent 3 weeks testing and retesting wax combinations for the ’08 X Games. The time spent was worth its weight in gold.

All the T-Hall hype aside, there’s something bigger Tanner’s contributed than Gorilla Style, a penchant for weed, and clothes big enough to fit the U.S. Women’s Mogul Team. Tanner has single handedly rekindled the sport of skiing. There were other pioneers, but before the rise of Hall, skiing was primarily a bunch of chumps sliding around in fluorescent jumpsuits. Are you having an Identity Crisis

Are you having and Identity Crisis? I have often wondered if roller blading can be cool again. As I have looked out into our big world I have noticed that skiers will not touch a pair of roller blades because they just arn't cool. But wait... Isn't roller blading alot like skiing. Maybe skiing just isn't that cool. As you may tell this is being written by a guy who likes to snowboard but I have a skeleton in my closet which comes in the form of a pair of roller blades. Am I having an Identiy Crisis? When I started Snowboarding It really wasn't that cool but when I started roller blading it was. There seems to be a major problem... If my hypothisis is correct skiiers only want to be doing what is cool. Well if that is the case then they should all be snowboarding. They already wear all snowboard driven clothing why not just make the full switch. Stop being a Bi-Skier. Do you want to go facing forward or side ways and to my self you need to stop rollerblading on the weekends or just start skiing. Basically we all need to do what we want to do, Not just cause it makes us cooler then the other guy.

Travis Rice is the Jerry Rice of Snowboarding. You might say he kills it. The Jackson Hole native cut his teeth on the gnarliest terrain this side of AK, so it’s no mystery why he’s one of the most well rounded riders on the planet.

Last season Travis hosted Natural Selection. It was the first contest created by humans to incorporate terrain-park style into a burly, all-mountain venue. The conditions were perfect for it too — two feet of blower pow for the invitation-only roster. Rice claims he sold his soul for a blizzard during the contest. His deal paid off with a win.

Beyond shredding, Rice fills his schedule with filming. His latest project, That’s It, That’s All, wraps up 4 years of traveling and filming in Canada, Alaska, Jackson, Utah, and pretty much anywhere else it snows in the world. Expect this one to blow the doors off. The trailer may be too rad to handle, so be warned.

T Rice also beats the crap outta Lib Tech boards for a living—Lib calls it product testing though. After Travis puts the boards through the paces, he tells Lib what sucks and what can withstand his punishment. You get the stuff that makes it. Now You Cant Even Skate in our own Backyards?

On August 7th, 2008 the Salt Lake Valley Health Department passed a new ordinance which prohibits the use of any skate ramps on a residential property. The reasoning they have used to issue this ordinance is based on "Noise Pollution".
The ordinance can be found here on the SLVHD website. It is Regulation # 21, and reads as follows...

4.5.21. Sporting Ramps. No person shall build or use nor shal any person cause, allow, or permit anyone to build or allow anyone to use any skateboard, roller blade, bicycle, or snowboard ramp or half-pipe or similar configuration within 800 feet of a dwelling, except within facilities that have been designated for such use by government entity.

This is obviously unjust, and anyone who has ever used a backyard skate ramp knows that it that it would be an impossible argument to say that a Mini-ramp produces any more noise than a backyard swing set, trampoline, swimming pool, basket ball hoop, or a family backyard gathering for a nice summer evening barbeque.

Skateboarding is illegal in most public venues. Now our local council has made it illegal to enjoy this activity in the privacy of your own backyard. They have stated an argument that anyone who skateboards can now enjoy the several public skateparks that many of the numerous counties, cities, and communities have assembled throughout Utah. For this reason they feel it is only fair that we are prohibited from skating in the privacy of our own backyards. Though it is very true that many skate parks have in fact sprouted up, and any of us who enjoy skateboarding are quite grateful for continued growth in skateparks. However, this doesn't change the fact that this is completely beside the point. Why haven't they made noise ordinance that states families can no longer enjoy their backyard pools due to excessive noise? There are public, and community pools to enjoy instead, right? Or perhaps you can no longer shoot hoops in your driveway because the city provides baskets at the neighborhood park, or school? The fact remains that they have no just reason for passing this ordinance. A mini-ramp produces no more noise then any other general backyard activities that take place on a daily basis in thousands of backyards across our city every day. It seems clear that this ordinance is biased towards Skateboarders. Skateboarders have been segregated specifically in this matter. Speak up, and voice your opinion in this matter. Let our officials know that you are unwilling to stand by, and be told that you are no longer able to enjoy skateboarding in the privacy of your backyard. Take back, your back yard. Sign our online petition to urge our city, and county officials to address this issue. Email this page to all your friends, and family. Spread the word.

Window Shopping

Basically, I don't have anything to write right now. You may say I am window shopping. I am looking out at the Wasatch, Rain is falling and I am at work. Now you think I would love to be at work all day everyday but I am kind of dreaming of a powder day right now.

How much fun would it be to be on milli chairlift or whatever lift you like to ride and just be heading to your favorite bowl for a 2 foot fast powder day that just everything out there you can jump off of. I know just writing this makes me stolked. Do you think Winter Will be here early? Do you think we are going to get hammered across this country like we did last year? I sure hope so.

May we all pray for lots of deep days because the deep days are what we do this for.

I have officially seen everything.

Gearin' up for the season

I'm maybe 1/16 as good as Eric Pollard, but I do ride Sir Francis Bacons. They're the most amazing ski I've ever ridden. Before I made my trek to Atlanta, I skied 'em everyday: groomers, pow, jumps, crud, trees- they slay pretty much everything. And they're so stable, you can straight-line groomers pretty much anywhere.

But the ski really shines in the Pow. I came to the Bacon from the Line Mothership Flites- the ones with the boombox chick. Those skis killed it. The Bacon ups the ante though. It has more pop, it's wider, the turn radius makes it a lot surfier in the deep stuff- I'm talking slashing Brighton's Rock Garden, Milly, GW.

It's been awhile since I rode em, but I cannot wait to get back on the Bacons.

Global Warming I think I may like it.

Well I get stoked. It is Sept 2ND and the snow began to fly in the mountains of the Wasatch. Snowbird Reported Snow, Alta Reported Snow and now all us Utahan's can only pray about is another year like last year. Could you imagine that. If we are able to pull of weather patterns again like last year we are going to have two of the best years of our lives in the great state of Utah.

Global warming doesn't mean "according to all these brilliant scientists" that it is going to get warmer everywhere. there are places because of global warming that will go into an ice age due to the oceanic currents. This is what gives me hope. We had more snow then we have had in the mountains of the Wasatch last year at such a consistent rate that I had like 30 pow days and 3 or 4 hard pack days and that is because I couldn't go on every powder day I wanted to.

Bring on the global warming because my powder days have been amazing.

Now i ride my bicycle alote, pretty much every morning up imigration canyon in salt lake city around 7:30 before work. There is a 3-6 foot bike path up this canyon and down which to me means plenty of room to give cars a chance to go up this canyon with out having to worry about hitting one of us. I havn't figured it out but bike riders and this means people on fixies to weekend warriors think that the second you are pedaling you can run a stop sign one moment and blow through it the next. They really think they are above the law. Now I hope I am saying this with people knowing that I HATE DRIVERS WHEN I AM ON MY BIKE. I get yelled at, pushed off the road, things thrown at me basically all of the above for riding in traffic legally, and all i am saying in this entire thing is, bike riders move over why are you riding 3 and 4 deep up these canyons. riding bikes is not about catching up on your neiborhood gossip on the way up. Ride single file, stay out of the way of the cars because I think we all know one thing. THE CAR WILL ALWAYS WIN!!!

A Rowing Confession

Now I was watching the olympic rowing and there is no way they are that smooth and I can't even make this thing work that is when a little research went into this entire operation. I little mounting error. Some may say goofy or regular I say I put my oars in the Oar Locks backwards and it was causing some major problems. Now that that is said onto the next subject because rowing just got so much fun!

I have always wanted to do this. I like riding bicycles, I lived in Europe for a bit and saw the queens university team rowing every morning for about 4 months and that was amazing so I finally purchased one and no the Olympics really didn't inspire me to finally do it.

I Basically had no idea what I was doing. I tried getting in the boat. Now that was a trip the bottom of this thing basically is shaped like a bowling ball. Then I just went for it and could not get the boat to do anything that I wanted it to do. I tried going forward, backward, even tried just to get back to shore. I was telling the boat to do something and it wasn't listening.

I went home, went to sleep dreamt about it, woke up at 6:30 a could not believe it but I was sore. my back, shoulders, arms, abs, it was amazing, so I jumped in the truck because i hate being defeated and tried again. Let me tell you what an amazing morning on little dell reservoir in salt lake city Utah. Calm water, no one around me and a boat I could not control the day before and I started rowing it. I will be Honest a canoe with 3 big beautiful women in it could of beat me in a race but i finally started moving.

Besides golf and skateboarding this has to be one of the most difficult sports I have ever tried. But it has been a 12 hour period so maybe i will start getting the hang of it by the end of the week.

Now it has been a few days it is now Friday evening I launch the boat the wind is coming out of the north west and there are white caps on this lake. Now I don't know if you know anything about these types of boats but sculling and white caps really don't go hand and hand so I do it anyway. I row up the lake and am really feeling good. I turn around start Rowing down, my oar catches I loose my grip the oar goes to the side of the boat and splish, splash I am taking a bath. What a trip and what a blast but scary as hell when you are 50 yards away from the shore can't get back in the boat, and the wind and current is really sending you farther out into the lake but all turned out okay or this would have never been posted.

Dave MIRRA, You know the king of the bicycle, not the tricycle the bicycle, the thing with two wheels on it. The size of tire he rides is not the 26" or the 700c but the 20" bmx tire for vert, street, dirt and so much more. Yea the little kids bikes that we grew up on. The Bicycles we tried so hard to jump but for some reason could never figure out how to get them to get higher then 6" off the ground with our fantastic bunny hop plus the heighth of the curb we were so stolked on jumping off of. Well it looks like he moved up the ranks and I was there to witness this. This is Dave Mirra's first attempt at jumping another fantastic vehicle and I thought you would all like to see it! This was the Saturday before the X Games in Salt Lake City, Utah just down the street from RememberDelaware.com where i work and spend alote of my Time.

New look for NSMB

Mountain Biking season is upon us. If you need to fuel your stoke, check out NSMB.com. NSMB is mostly freeride-based, but there's some pretty good interviews and gear reviews if you can get over the weird Canadian spellings (Tyre).

NSMB.com (North Shore Mountain Biking) recently got a huge facelift. The old site was super clunky, and, really really brown. The new site, by designer Dave Smith, introduced a concept and the result is pretty rad.

Dave's idea for the site incorporated the cold, foggy forests of British Columbia. He also got his look from Sterling Lorence and the posters of Sheppard Fairey (the obey guy).

Moving Sucks

So I drive this white Toyota truck that's about 13 years old. It's an awesome vehicle and I love. It's messy, been broken, been peed on, and is unwashed. Just like me! It runs like Carl Lewis and has a small cab so I can't really fit more than 2 people in it, unless they want to ride in the back like a cheap piece of cargo.

Being the friend with the truck has certain benefits as well as limitations. To me the best part about driving a truck is that since I can't leagaly fit more than 2 people in my truck I am never the designated driver when me and the crew go get swervey at the bar.

But the worst part is that I'm the first person my friends call when they need to move. I'm seriously talking like once a month. Usually I get the call or text on the last week that comes along with a sob story about getting evicted and how I need to help them move a futon and some old couch. And I hate lifting things.

So Remember Delaware moved this weekend and I totally told them that I would help. Instead I got suckered into doing the SLUG magazine delivery route up in Ogden and totally didn't help them move. They've got a lot of stuff man. It just didn't look like something I wanted to do. Sorry guys. But I'm lazy when it comest to physical labor. Besides, I almost have Metroid Prime for the Wii beat, and I got to finish that.

I'm new here at remember Delaware, I'm new to blogging too. I forgot that they sold Skis. I forgot that anyone skis. did you know that people ski? Now why would I forget that?

Probably because I also help SLUG Mag produce contests each winter where we let skiers compete as well as shred-heads. And my job is to round up the prizes (my actual title is 'Events Coordinator) and getting snowboard companies to support an awesome local contest is no problem.

BUT, the Ski Companies? They always seem to forget about me. Always. Getting a ski company to sponsor a local amateur event is like pulling teeth. Which sucks for the ski kids.

So skiers please don't be offended if I forget about you guys from time to time. Keep in mind that when I started snowboarding skiers were kooks. Just like the Greasers and the Sosc's, it was Snowboarders vs. Skiers and Skaters vs. Fruitbooters.

Now I'm not exactly sure what happened, but the Skaters eventually won the nation wide resistance against Rollerbladers, and when the Scooters tried to infiltrate our turf, well they were defeated with ease. But Snowboarders vs. Skiers? Some how some sort of Magna Carta went down and now there's like no difference between the two breeds.

It probably started when ski's got fat and Ski kids started dressing like snowboarders. Then they started launching out of the pipe twice as high and with less arrogance.

But me? No I will never ski. I won't even consider it until these stupid ski companies start sponsoring my events with more consistency. got it, Dorks?

This Blog has been commondeered

This blog has officially been commondeered by yours truely, Mike Brown. The last time i wrote anything about snowboarding was a couple months ago for SLUG Magazine. I gave a sno-bro an interview in exchange for court side Jazz tickets. If you don't know me, all you really need to keep in mind is a couple things, I'm shallow like a kitty pool and easily bribed. So if you need any local footy published and you happen to be a lower-bowl season ticket holder let me know. We can help each other out.

And the last time before the last time that I wrote anything about snowboarding was an article I did for SLUG Magazine tittled, Snowboarding, the New Football. Some of the local pros that could read, or had agents that read the article to them, took exception, but I stand by my work. The thesis of the football article was all about how you 'gear up' to shred the gnar and how that's fun. And although I'm no meat head, I know that you 'gear up' to play football and I'm sure thats fun too. anyway, speaking of meat heads, here's a picture of me with Shawn White from the last trade show. I don't want to start any rumors or anything, but he was in the Mervin Booth.

NEFF Reveals Their Mystery Designer

I have always wondered who’s the designer behind all this neon-flavored gear. All along I thought they pre-washed their shirts and just tossed in some cool neon paints during the spin cycle and Walla! Through an inside source we now know where all these bright zigzag paintbrush designs come from. Who would have ever guessed the infamous painter Bob Ross? His hit television show “The Joy of Painting” tickled the imaginations of millions from the safety of a VCR player. Today, his NEFF designs speak louder than Johnny Knoxville unleashing his blow horn on a foursome of Golden Girls at the 18th tee box at Alpine County Club! Once upon a time there were “happy trees” and now with a little twist we now have “happy tees.” Bob Ross said it best, "We don't make mistakes here, we just have happy accidents.” I think NEFF rules, their style, their moves, and definitely their designs! Ok, so maybe Bob Ross passed away in 1995 but I think it’s a hoax and he’s in CA making happy tees!

I just read a great article about my favorite snowboarder of all time and a friend, Brandon Ruff. It is hard to write this because I know I am going completely against all that Brandon believes in. Brandon Ruff in my mind is the best figure in all of snowboarding. With Cliff lines named after him and a riding style unique to him self, Brandon is a purest, a silent giant of the Wasatch. I have searched on you tube for a good video part to post, No Luck. I have searched for photo's of Brandon which are hard to come by. So I guess This post is for me. I wish you could all see what I have seen with Brandon. What a time to ride at brighton utah. Riding with or around Timmy O, Jp , Jeremy Jones, you may have an idea of how good brandon ruff really is but there is nothing like watching him ride.

Bright Ideas from the homies at Surefire

Normally I wouldn't even think about posting about a silly flashlight. But the dudes at Surefire know how to build a flashlight that's ready to kick some tail and take some names. In fact, these flashlights are used by some of the hardest of the hardcore- I'm talking Navy SEALS here. Swat teams and police use these flashlights on their tactical weapons. Heck, the flashlights themselves are burly enough to be considered deadly-- some of the models are intended for use in self defense (they have a gnarly bezel that's intended to render the offending party's day pretty crappy). My personal favorite part of Surefire's line is the tactical weapons lights. You can mount an extremely powerful LED light onto your tactical pistol or your rifle to illuminate your target- just like in those movies where the SWAT team always has those rad lights under the barrel of their Glock (it's probably a Surefire tactical light).

These guys also make silencers for your automatic weapons too. I really like Surefire.

Lib Tech breaks free from the bonds of ski design

It's been awhile since anybody did anything really groundbreaking in snowboard or ski design. Lib-Tech went out on a limb and broke the mold of the age-old metal-edge cambered snowboard design. Their flashy new innovation is called magne-traction. The magne-traction takes a simple sidecut design and multiplied it several times along the running length of the snowboard (and their unabashed skinny-ass snowboards[skis]). The point of the extra sidecuts is increased surface contact in any snow conditions.

Lib-Tech got a Transworld GOOD WOOD award last year and Travis Rice seems to love his board, so check em out next time your looking for a new stick. In the meantime, Watch TRice shred while you should be writing your TPS reports.

Outdoor retailer show= FREE STUFF

Twice a year, all the major players in the Outdoor "industry" swarm to Salt Lake City, Utah to see the latest and greatest crap that will be available to buy next year. The OR show, as it's known to industry insiders serves two (2) practical functions. They are as follows: Walk around and drink all the vendors' beer (used to lure buyers and other reps into visiting booths), and gather free power bars and energy drinks or whatever. If you play your cards right and hit some of the booths on the waning days of the show, you can score some pretty sweet stuff. My buddy got a hammock a couple years ago because he timed it right.

I guess it's not really fair to brag about all this free stuff that outdoor retailers get. Most of it comes as a tradeoff to the piss- poor wages most of us make. I guess that's part of the give and take about getting to wear your sandals to work everyday. In the meantime, I'll continue to scrape by- yet have some of the dopest gear around. I'll be eating my free mole poblano energy bars and drinking my HOOAH energy drinks, that I plan on hoarding at the show.

Urban Hipster Culture: FIXIES

Let me start this one off by simply restating 25% percent of this blog's title. FIXIES. Okay. You've probably seen the fixies darting around the coffee shops and vintage clothing stores in your city.

If you're not so in the know (myself included), the fixie is short for a fixed gear bicycle. It's the preferred mode of travel for hard-core bike messengers, and hipster kids. I love riding pretty much any bicycle, but the fixed gear thing has me baffled. I guess I understand the puritanical element of cycling that's all about riding a simple, reliable machine. The thing I can't understand is the fixation (pun intended) on riding a bike with no breaks in super heavy city traffic. Purists would then tell me I have no idea what it feels like to glide through traffic without being fettered by brakes. I would answer that one with a question. Aren't brakes supposed to, on principal, "fetter" your speed? It seems ludicrous to purposely put yourself in a high-traffic situation, then remove the brakes from your steed. But I'm not a hipster either. I just don't get Zen. I'll talk to ya in the ER when some Yahoo decides to change lanes into you.

Shaun White needs a new nickname

I really like those fakish SAT analogy questions Conan O'Brien does every once in awhile. I came up with one yesterday that seems rather relevant. So listen carefully and see if you can complete the analogy. Mt. Olympus is to Zeus as XGames is to ____________. Well if you answered anything other than Shaun White, you are mistaken. Yesterday, the 20-year-old threw it down in the skate halfpipe event to become the only athlete to strike Xgames gold in both winter and summer X. Shaun bailed on his first two runs in the pipe. So the pressure was on to lay down a midas-worthy final run. So White did what he does best. He flowed. It was flawless... under pressure. Which brings me to my next point.

WHO coined that crappy nickname The Flying Tomato? I get it. The kid has flowing locks of Pantene-commercial-worthy Red hair, but c'mon. Let's get something new for this guy. I came up with a few that seem more marketable. I think Shaun might like em too.

YOU DO NOT HAVE THE BEST JOB EVER

I wandered over to Transworld Surf's Web page today and what did I behold? Well, for one thing, the US Open of Surfing is going on. But that is a mere sideshow to the real news. The real news is the model search going on for Ms. US Open 2007. The aim of the search is to comb the beach looking for the finest bronzed ladies in the area. The judges of this thing have the best job in the world. Game. Set. Match.

How does one apply for such a position? What are the job qualifications? I really want to know. The judges get to chill in a chair on the beach all day and take snapshots of Beach Girls. Well, there has to be a catch right? What? You have to open your own Red Bull? I guess there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Rally Racing is the new Bungee jumping

The X games started today and the rally racers took to the course for a few practice laps. Subsequently, Subaru launched a WRX Web Site promoting the new 08 WRX. The new model offers a drastic overhaul from previous models. Many test drivers say the new car drives like a shackled version of the little all-wheel-drive rocketships that hoards have come to worship. I guess the folks at Subie are trying to take the brand upscale or something. And that sucks. I'm pretty loyal to my Subaru, but if there's anything I don't want, is a watered down version of the car. I want to blow people off the line in my station wagon. I like the new hatchback version of the car (I'm a wagon guy) but I want the WRX to maintain its bite.

The American team won't be racing in the newer models just yet, but you can bet the rally will become an X Games staple for quite awhile.

Pro Ho's: A Casual Observer's Field Guide

It's about that time of year again. Soon, Mack Dawg, Kidsnow, Absinthe, and all the other crews will criss-crossing the continent promoting snowboarding and all things gnar. This means only one thinng- Pro Ho's.

The Northern Pro Ho, known to the scientific community as the Prohoribulus borealis, is a largely social creature. She can be found looming around after-parties, movie premiers, and tradeshows. Her most distinguishable markings are an overly-orange skin tone, vodka Red Bull-beverage perched precariously in hand, and a tilted trucker hat. The Northern Pro Ho can easily be captured on film, normally flashing hand signals somewhat resembling street gang signs. Despite the Pro Hos outwardly benign appearance, her motives are self-serving. She wants nothing more than free beverages, signed posters, and the notoriety from association with action sports stars. Casual conversation with the Prohoribulus borealis can be extremely difficult, do not attempt to talk in depth. Injury or death from boredom my result.

You may already have encountered the Pro Ho in her habitat. If not, learn to appreciate her beauty from a distance. Enjoy the 08 snow premiers.

Vote Shaun Neff for mayor of Candyland

I've been a fan of Neff Headwear for quite sometime. In fact, I think most of the 07-08 lineup is dope (read Jet Set Pack, cut and sew t-shirts). But since when did clothes look more like an episode of Sesame Street projectile vomited all over 'em? Don't get me wrong, I have my fair share of zany t's and more than my fair share of over-the-top sneakers. But it seems like this year's crop of fall fashions were dipped in a vat of neon paint. Bright colors are rad, but where do you draw the line here? Allow me to suggest a fashion guideline. Use all-over prints sparingly. Limit your daily kit to ONE (1) dayglo, or all-over item. If you're rocking more than that, you've crossed the line to excessorizing. If you expect anyone to take your setup seriously, heed these guidelines- unless you're vying for Lieutenant Governor of Funkytown.

I'm a skier. I always have been and probably always will be. In fact I'll probably never ride a single day on a snowboard in my life. I was e-surfing around last night and came across a few of the snowboarding movies slated to drop in a few weeks. But I came to a daunting conclusion. Snowboarding is so much cooler than skiing. You think I'm lying? Check out Absinthe films new trailer, OPTIMISTIC? Absinthe always brings the whole package- stunning footy, great music, and killer locales. I hate to say this, but I get more stoke to ski from watching snowboarding movies than I get from the ham-fisted skiing flicks that drop every year.

Snowboarders just know how to flow a line down the mountain and make it look effortless, almost surreal. Watch a good rider in a Mack Dawg flick and take note how riders like MFM or Travis Rice jib and tap anything in their path. It's less a mode of transportation and more of an artistic reflection that embodies the attitude of the rider. Most skiers just aren't at that point yet. I'm waiting for the season where skiers transcend that line.

There are very few skiers that inspire me these days. Just to shout out to these chosen few, I can always watch a clip of Eric Pollard's surfy, obviously snowboard-inspired, riding style. Pep Fujas always kills it, whether he's no-poling on YouTube clips, or shredding in Austria. Of course, Tanner Hall continues to raise the bar of how to lay it down on two planks. Chris Biollo brings it raw as well. These dudes get me stoked, but that's about it. Check out the Trailer for Eric Iberg's film IDEA. These guys seem to get where the sport needs to go. Until then, skiing will have to borrow pages from snowboarding's radical style guide.

Freeride mountain biking takes a blend of freestyle motocross moves, a little BMX, and a whole lotta cojones, to bring a crazy sport that's going bigger than ever before. This week, all the top guns in the freeride world compete for cash and glory at Crankworx in Whistler, BC. Expect huge, airs, big spins, go-for-broke flips, and plenty of after-hours tomfoolery. Most of the competitors in the field aren't even old enough to get a driver's license, yet they'll stomp a 360-tailwhip over a road gap or a 35-foot tabletop like it's their job. The real cash and glory goes to the winner of the Kokanee Slopestyle course. Riders session the bottom section of Whistler's bike park, showcasing the latest and greatest tricks. This event has a $20,000 purse. Not bad for an afternoon.

Last year Travis Pastrana earned more X Games hardware than your local Home Depot normally carries. What can't this kid do? He threw it down the rally course, beating out rally legend Colin McRae, and DC Shoe Mastermind Ken Block. Trav shocked the world with the double-backflip in Moto X Best Trick. The list goes on.

I just know I'm stoked to all the mind-blowing trickery all the athletes have up their sleeves. I'm also stoked at the progression of action sports and the fact that these kids can start making mad money doing what they love. Truth be told, I'm kinda jealous. I had big dreams of making it huge as a pro-athlete when I was a bit younger and had less regard for my ligaments and joints. Some might argue that as multi-national corporations start coughing up sponsorship dollars for these huge events, action sports becomes the very thing it was out to escape- indivualism and youth culture. Yo, if someone told me they pay me a 100g or more to travel all over the world to ski, I'd be on that in no time. If that's selling out, I'll gladly rock my Mountain Dew bottle or whatever anytime someone sticks a camera in my face.

New Wake Vests Make you look like a superhero (even if you suck at wakeboarding)

Let me preface this entry with a little disclaimer: I SUCK at wakeboarding.

O'Neill makes some of the raddest boardshorts on the market. Their Superfreak series features panels of neoprene and taped seams to keep you chafe free for a day of riding (or posing in my case). Although they're great boardshorts, they could be a tad longer.

I'm really stoked on O'Neill's wake vests for this season. They're built ultra-slim so you can dial those handle passes that keep you from nailing your backside 3s. I tried on the Gooru Vest the other day. I'm not gonna lie this thing is Dope. It kinda looks like bat armor mixed with kevlar body armor 50 Cent might wear. The vest is super-padded too, so if you're trying out your jibbing and you take a digger, you're far less likely to break your ribs.

Smith Sunglasses: New Fashion-Forward Sliders

I never thought I'd see the day when Smith would step up and make some shades that are as fashionable as they are functional. Well, that day has finally come. Smith's new installment in the Slider line, dubbed the Interlocks, bring a fresh look from the days of the Buzzsaw's and the Toasters. Don't get me wrong here, I cherished my Buzzsaw's until they met their untimely demise on a trail ride. (I even custom painted em with a rad night camo job). All paint-jobbery aside, the new interlocks feature a cam-locking system to release the lens rather than the usual drop-in interface the standard Slider series has. If you're a dyed-in-the-wool Smith fan, scope out the Interlocks.

Oakley steps up and makes some cool sunglasses for chicks

Oakley's made some pretty rad sunglasses in the past. They've made some really horrible ones too. Remember the Over-The-Tops? Oakley claims to have some of the best glasses in the game. Heck, all the lenses stop shotgun blasts from 15 feet. As great as the optics are on Oakley Eyewear, they've always pushed the I-don't-know-if-this-is-cool-or-just-really-too-much fashion envelope. They're starting to come around with some more sensible frames while maintaining those legendary optics that seem to scratch when you clean the lenses with anything except the magic bag they come in. All jokes aside, I'm pretty stoked on the summer line-up of women-specific Oakley's. I really like the Speechless frames. They look like Jackie-O shades with Oakley lenses. If I was a chick, I'd probably get a pair.

Nike Steps into extreme sports (AGAIN)

Although the Nike Dunk SB's are probably some of the best shoes on the planet, Nike continues to dabble into the ever-growing arena of core sports (or EXXTREEEEME sports). Nike's shelled out some big dollars to create some pretty impressive marketing and they've gathered a pretty respectable pro team under their youth-driven Nike 6.0 Line. They have a team of Mountain Bike freeriders, a few wake boarders, and a couple of skiers too. If the 6.0's are half as comfortable as the cherished SB dunks, it's on like Donky Kong.

RuffWear Dog Boots: Guaranteed to make most normal dogs go ballistic

Ruffwear makes some pretty cool stuff for dog owners that are into active sports. Most of the materials are super heavy duty-- they'll probably last more than the lifetime of your pooch. Ruffwear makes traveling with your dog a lot easier and safer (for your dog and you). I was into the product line until I stumbled onto the Bark'n Boots Grip Trex. Then I started wondering what kind of pet owner would be bold enough to put Vibram-soled boots onto Fido. Knowing all the dogs I've owned, the last being a Beagle (RIP Daisy), Every single dog I've owned would have gone nuts if some foreign object became quite securely attached to its paws. Maybe If you're running the Iditarod or you're out at Craters of the Moon on some really gnarly lavarock. Other than that, it's a bit of over kill. I get it. You love your dog.

Luke Edgar has never been accused of having a stick up his ass…at least not until now.

I headed to The Canyons resort located near Park City, Utah for Rossignol’s Project C event, which is a celebration of 100 years in the snow sports industry and in honor of their new Mountain Center offices in Park City. Luke Edgar was recently named hardgoods division VP of Rossignol/Quiksilver and has set out to step up the snowboard brand to a new level.

If you’re lucky enough to know Luke, you would know what a great person he is and how unreal his energy level is. Since my arrival he had been talking about a hike out from 99-90 chairlift to Square Top where he swore the snow was excellent despite the fact that spring is in full effect and there is far more brown than white on the hill at this point.

We set off on this mission today but along the way the patchwork snow surface combined with an attempted super-slasher sent Luke off the run and down into a gully where he was unfortunately impaled by a tree branch. And yes…it got him in the ass. Everyone will be happy to know that Luke will be fine after a trip to the hospital to have the stick removed. I was amazed at how he was able to laugh it off and make jokes. I would have been crying like a baby. He swore he would be back for the closing festivities on Friday night and we proceeded with the hike in his honor. It turns out the snow was surprisingly very good.

Luke was the mastermind behind the Project C event. Look for a post right here at futuresnowboarding.com with all of details on the event in the next couple of days.

Luke’s initial surgery had apparently gone well when it was discovered that there was another section of stick still inside his leg. I’m not sure why an x-ray didn’t determine this in the first place but a second surgery was required to remove the remaining piece. Luke unfortunatly missed the Project C closing day party and was greatly missed by everyone in attendance. He is still expected to make a complete recovery, it’s just taking longer than expected. We are all wishing you the best Luke, get well soon.

On Janurary 22nd - 25th the annual event of SIA occured. SIA is a trade show were we get to go look at and purchase the new products for next year. We saw many awesome products and many stupid ideas.

Bern Helmets created the Baker and this helmet was an instant success. Style and fashion were perfect on this helmet. Out for a couple of years now it is the ideal ski and snowboard helmet. But Low and behold the snowboard leader of all companies knocks the helmet right off to The T. What happen to your ideas? If the leader in the industry is knocking off products from the smaller manufacturers you would think they would need to hire some new designers.

Well it snowed and we are stolked. In salt lake city a storm front came through and of course the great salt lake was really warm so lake effect came in as well. It layed am awesome dusting of nice utah snow.

I could see the anticipation start overflowing with the customers and friends that came down to the shop.

Well in the next 3 weeks most of the rocky mountains will have many resorts open. Some resorts are already up and running in colorado and many resorts in our back yard will be open soon. I think it is a glimer of hope. I see the white capped mountains every morning when I come down to the warehouse and it stokes me out every day. I think I am going to by a new snow toy. An Arctic Cat M8 Snowmobile. Then we really can ride untracked whenever we want.

May Thanksgiving come fast and april fools come long deep and slow.

The Brick and mortar guys have complained that online retailers have had to have brick and mortar (retail buildings) for who knows how long. Now the Cheat code appears. Backcountry.com, usoutdoorstore.com, exitrealworld.com it seems that many online guys such as our selves (rememberdelaware.com) do have brick and mortar but they also have invested in there websites allot of time which equals money. Is it really that much less expensive to have an online store versus a brick and mortar store? The advertising dollar online puts that lease to shame. Now the Brick and Mortar stores don't half to have a website to sale online thanks to shopatron and the brilliant minds that decide to go this way. Isn't that the same argument as before? The brick and motor guys need a website to sale online that is what the online guys are saying? All of the online guys have had to invest in websites which equals time and money. Let the online guys do the online and the retailers be the retailers. There is room for both. There Demon shows its face the instant there heads get to big. The instant the companies think there bigger then the business. Cutting the retailers becomes a death squad. The shops loose there love for the brand. On that note if you have some major company like DC shoes or Oakley it really doesn't seem to catch up to them but maybe it will we just can't see it yet. But the small startups wow can it hurt. Or the companies that have been around for awhile and are hurting, it will hurt. Deciding to bring on your own website shopping as a manufacture is the poorest decision a manufacture can make in our opinion. Are the manufactures loosing there respect for the retailer? This is what we believe, let the manufactures make things and let the retailer’s sale the things they make. What is so wrong with that small principle? Just a thought you decide...
